Let’s take a look at each Morning Bin in action! There is no right or wrong way to use these morning bins! For example, you can place all 21 bins out each month and have students work on an individual bin, or you can bring one bin out each day. However, I like the idea of allowing a table group of 4-6 students to work on one bin at a time. This allows them to socialize, work as partners, and learn from one another. I chose larger bins so that I could place all of my manipulatives, baskets and materials in the bins. See bottom of the post for more storage ideas.

Morning Bin #1: Rhyming

For the month of August and September, we will focus on rhyming. First, students will say the name of the picture at the top of the card and clip the picture that rhymes. In addition, an optional accountability sheet has been provided.

Morning Bin #2: Segment and Blend

In this activity, students count the number of letters in each words and clip the correct number.

Morning Bin #3: Identify

For this activity, provide magnet letters or letter tiles. Then students match a magnetic letter to each printed letter.

Morning Bin #4: Sounds

Cover the picture that starts with the specific sound.

Morning Bin #5: Syllables and Compound Words

Say the name of the picture. Clap the syllables and clip the correct number of syllables in each word.

Morning Bin #6: Sequencing

Link your name with letters and links. NOTE: This resource includes an EDITABLE file!

Morning Bin #7: Vocabulary

Each month, students will receive a new set of vocabulary words that are relevant to that specific time of the year. Also, vocabulary words will come with a Vocabulary Chart, picture / word match up and build the word activity cards.

Morning Bin #8: Printing

You can set up the letter formation practice Alphabet Bus Tracers with a variety of items! For example, you can use a toy bus, toy car, mini erasers, dry erase markers or other hands-on manipulative to practice creating the letter on the page.

Morning Bin #9: Extra Tricky Practice

Each month, students will will work on a skill that is a bit tricky and needs some practice. This month, students are working on building and writing their names!

Morning Bin #10: Patterns

Working with patterns is a very important skill for Kindergarten. Therefore, in this morning bin, we are working on recreating a pattern with bears. However, if you don’t have bear manipulative, just use any manipulative that can recreate the color pattern.

Morning Bin #11: Counting Sequence

Students work to put puzzles in order (1-5) and (1-10).

Morning Bin #12: Making and Counting Groups

There are two tasks included in this morning bin. First, punch the correct number of holes in the apple. Then, students add the correct number of beads to the pipe cleaners.

Morning Bin #13: Compare and Measure

Students look at the picture and count the apples. Then they can use play dough to make the matching set.

Morning Bin #14: Shapes

Students sort the shapes.

Morning Bin #15: Sorting

Two activities are included in this set: First, sort pom-poms or other materials, to the correct colored apple. Second, sort the apples by letters, numbers and words.

Morning Bin #16: Numeral Identification

Roll, Count and Cover the Number (1 die).

Morning Bin #17: Base 10

Show the number in a Ten Frame.

Morning Bin #18: Math Printing

Build the numeral with play dough (1-10). Then count the correct number of manipulatives to add to the ten frame.

Morning Bin #19: Add and Subtract

Add more numbers to fill the 5 frame. In short, exposing students to addition by adding more to the ten frame is a great introduction that will set the stage for more advanced math. Conveniently, you can use any type of manipulative for this activity.

Morning Bin #20: Motor Skills

Cut along the lines. Fine motor skills are extremely important, especially as we prepare student to learn how to write. Therefore, this activity had several cutting options, from straight lines to wiggly lines.

Morning Bin #21: Social Emotional

Build the feeling with play dough. In general, kids love play dough and this is a great ways to engage their senses and help increase social and emotional learning. Kids certainly come into the classroom with a lot of different emotions. With this in mind, this simple activity helps them express how they are feeling that day. In short, they can build the emotion they see or they can build the emotion they are feeling that day.

Storage Ideas:

Undoubtedly, The Moffatt Girls Engage Facebook group is a GREAT place for teachers and homeschoolers to share how they are using Moffatt Girls curriculum and resources. For this reason, we would love to have you join! Here are some examples of some ideas that have been shared in the group. Another teacher, Ashley Nicole, has made her space beautiful by using Steralite Bins!

Diana also placed her morning bins in containers from the Dollar Tree.

Similarly, Carrie used heavy duty paper trays from Lakeshore.

Once you are done using the monthly set of morning bins activities, you can remove the manipulatives and place the activity cards and sheets in plastic envelopes. Here is an example:
