Easy Birthday Bulletin Board Idea

Are you obsessed with this board as much as I am? You can grab it here in my TpT Shop!
Seriously, how cute is this donut-themed birthday bulletin board? This easy-to-put-up bulletin board is perfect for displaying your classroom birthdays and adds a sweet touch of color to your classroom. Did I mention that it is one of those boards that you can put up once and leave up all year? The best, right?

To make this simple board, you’ll need a few materials to get you started!

Birthday Bulletin Board Materials

Fabric or bulletin board paper base (if you aren’t a fan of fabric, I love this Better Than Paper option!)

Wired burlap ribbon or other coordinating border (love these pastel options!)

Fabric Bulletin Board Background

So, for this donut-themed bulletin board, I kept the background simple with some fun, small, blue geo-print fabric that I found on sale at Joann’s Fabric Stores.

If you haven’t converted to using fabric on your boards, you are missing out! Fabric defies the odds of an active classroom. It doesn’t rip easily, and it doesn’t really fade. For me, a solid bulletin board is one with a good foundation that doesn’t have to be changed periodically, and fabric allows that to happen.

Then Add Burlap Border

Ok, so remember, the name of the game for simple bulletin boards that can be left alone all year (and beyond!) is to have an easy border.

For this board, I created a fun 3-D look with some wired burlap ribbon. To attach, I just unwound a few feet at a time and created movement by stapling the ribbon to the edges. Unlike paper board that you want to pull smooth as you staple, I purposely allowed extra ribbon to hang to create a ribbon/ripple effect. For the bow detail, I just purchased a pre-made burlap ribbon bow, and it added the perfect amount of interest without overdoing the “look.”

You can find the wired burlap ribbon here!

Add the Donut Lettering

Now that you have your bulletin board base, it’s time to start building out the birthday bulletin board! I like to start with lettering to anchor the board.

In the Donut You Know It’s Our Birthdays Pack, I’ve already included the lettering to make this birthday bulletin board super low prep on your end.

To make the letters, print out the words on white cardstock. The pastel colors work perfectly with this board! In addition to colored letters, I’ve also included black and white versions that can be printed onto colored cardstock instead. Now, I’m a huge fan of laminating anything you’ll use for more than a few months, so I suggest running these through a laminator (like this one!) and cut them out.

Once you’ve printed them out, trim out the words. (These are my favorite teacher scissors EVER!)

Then, place them in the center of the board. Use a few push pins to position them, then when you’re ready, remove the push pins and staple them in place.

Time for Birthdays and Donuts

Next, it’s time to add the birthdays!

Print out the month labels. Once again, they come in black-lined versions as well! Whichever you decide, I suggest using cardstock. Trim out and laminate, especially if you plan on having this board up for more than a few years. This will help keep the labels looking nice! Then, place in two rows across the board. Or make it fun and place it around the board!

Each donut is editable, so using your class info list (you can grab a handy version here!) add your student’s names and birthdays to each donut. Then, print and cut out. I placed each donut vertically below each month label. These do not need to be laminated, but that’s a personal choice!

Donut You Know It’s My Birthday?

In addition to the super simple print-and-go bulletin board, this pack also includes a little donut-themed birthday badge that you can print and place in a clip badge holder. Your students will love showing off their birthday badge, and it’s a little more grown-up than a birthday crown (sorry kinder friends!).

There’s also a fun printable birthday certificate. How fun would this be to give along with a donut-themed pencil as a special birthday prize? To make this prep easy, print and fill out all your certificates at the beginning of the year, so you’re not scrambling at the last minute to print and hand out the day of!
