I’ve pierced my ears twice in my life: once when I turned 13 (a rite of passage, for sure!) and again before I got married. While I wish I’d never let the holes seal shut the first time, I was too busy with sports and life to worry about wearing earrings. When it came time to get married, I wanted to wear a pair of my grandmother’s earrings, so I decided it was worth it to redo the process. It hurt even more the second time, but when I look back on my wedding photographs, it was definitely worth it.
I’m not surprised at this junction in my life that I have yet again let my earring holes heal shut. There was a time when I could force an earring through with only minimal pain, but now the option to wear studs is just a memory. To be honest, I just don’t care.
